Project overview

Through the American Rescue Plan, the United States Treasury will make available to the District at least $50 million in Homeowner Assistance Funds (HAF).

The DC Department of Housing and Community (DHCD) has recently launched a Homeowner Assistance Fund Pilot Program (HAF-Pilot). The pilot program can help income-qualified District homeowners facing financial troubles because of the COVID-19 pandemic who:

  • Own a condominium in DC in zip codes 20019, 20020, 20024, and 20032; and
  • Bought it using down payment and/or closing cost assistance from DHCD; and
  • Are behind on their mortgage or other property-related payments (such as condo fees, property taxes, and homeowner insurance).

The goal is to help eligible homeowners keep their homes and because the support comes in the form of a grant, it does not need to be paid back.

Humantiply built the homeowner application portal, application review tools, email systems, and complex data automations needed to power this crucial government program. Already thousands of homeowners are in line to get relief through this system. Humantiply worked as a partner of LEDC (Latino Economic Development Center) to deliver this project.

Project results

To date thousands of homeowners have utilized the online application system to apply for mortgage relief. Meanwhile, Humantiply and LEDC are working with America's largest financial institutions (such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America and dozens of others) to distribute payments and relieve homeowners of their mortgage distress.
